The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) proudly presents the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen youth essay competitions, providing a stage for young minds to articulate their thoughts on the theme of patriotism. This year’s exploration, “How Are You Inspired by America?” encouraged participants to delve into their experiences, grasp of American history, and insights into today’s society. Under the dedicated leadership of Post Commander Paul Bezazian, Post 8322 played a vital role in the VFW Voice of Democracy & Patriot’s Pen competitions within the 3rd District. Out of the hundreds of entries from various schools, our post selected two candidates to move on to the district-wide competition held at the VFW Rhines Post near Midway Airport.
We are extremely proud to announce that our post’s two candidates from Solomon Elementary and Evergreen Community High School secured an impressive 3rd place in both the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen District Essay Awards. This achievement stands as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent displayed by these participants. Their essays not only revealed a profound understanding of American history but also showcased a deep connection to the theme, “How Are You Inspired by America?”
The VFW-sponsored youth essay competitions, tailored for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, are conducted nationwide. With over 120,000 students participating last year, these contests have evolved into a significant platform for young minds to engage with patriotic themes and contribute to the discourse on America’s past and present. The total awards distributed at all levels of the competition amount to an impressive $1.2 million each year.
The VFW’s Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen essay competitions continue to serve as a source of inspiration and empowerment for the youth, encouraging them to contemplate their connection to America. As we celebrate the accomplishments of these students we extend an invitation for more students to participate in these enriching competitions, fostering a sense of patriotism and amplifying the voices of the next generation. Through their essays, these young minds actively contribute to the ongoing narrative of what it means to be inspired by America.
